Lawrence D. Burgel

A lifelong resident of Holgate, the late Lawrence D. Burgel knew the value of quality medical care close to home. This fact inspired him to remember Henry County Hospital in his last will and testament.

As a teenager, Mr. Burgel worked as a carpenter for his father at the Holgate Lumber Company. He eventually purchased his father's share of the business and co-owned the business with Bill Peper. Mr. Burgel retired in 1990 and his greatest pleasure in life came from his wife and five children.

Mr. Burgel passed away on June 21, 2009, at age 85. His legacy will live on through his donation to Henry County Hospital and his inclusion on the hospital's donor wall located in the welcome center. His name, and the names of others, serves as a reminder to those who pass by about how their generosity contributes to the care received at Henry County Hospital.

1. Bequest of cash

"I bequeath the sum of $10,000 to Henry County Hospital Foundation, Inc. of Napoleon, OH."

2. Bequest of a percent of the estate

"I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to Henry County Hospital Foundation, Inc., Napoleon, OH."

3. Contingent Bequest

"If my brother John Doe survives me, I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to John Doe. If John Doe does not survive me, then I devise and bequeath 20% of my residuary estate, whether real or personal property and wherever located to Henry County Hospital Foundation, Inc., Napoleon, OH."
